Artist Statement/Bio

Prior to life as a full time artist, Garrison was a vice-president of a large construction / development firm based in California.  His area of responsibility was the American southwest.

In his late forties, Garrison ‘dropped out’ of corporate life to follow his life’s love, art --  and traded the city for the desert vowing  to make a living at his joy.   What followed were years of pain, joy, success, failure, fear, confusion,   and more joy……. Bliss.

Over the years, certain concepts have been taken to heart and incorporated into Garrison’s life and art, e.g.    Art is pure, and exists for its own reasons,  often unknowable.    The muse exists in all of us, and occasionally, the cosmos comes together in a certain way that allows an artist to express it.    All an artist can ever hope for is to come close to an idea or feeling.

Art is not a competition, with whom are we competing?   It is not about how many or who,  buys   the work.  Ego unchained knows no bounds.  Art is one method the universe uses to connect with all of us,   it’s about the feelings, and the emotional response we have to our world.    No matter how we may deny it,    we do live in an emotional world.

When the universe has reached out and touched you through an artist, be appreciative.    If a painting touches something deep within you, feel moved and thankful.   It’s your private evidence the world is talking to you through your soul. If a piece of art makes you feel wonder,  God is knocking at your doorstep.  Step back; be dazzled by the magic, and mystery of life.

You will never see a Garrison giclee or print.  He creates original artwork that will not be duplicated. You will never see lists of people who have purchased his pieces,   it is a violation of  the privacy of the purchaser, and an ego driven exercise.

You will never see a bio that gives the minutiae of  his life,  it begs the meaning of the image, confuses the message with the messenger,  and  will have to wait for biographers. What you will see,  are pieces composed honestly from the heart.
