Kristy Lynn PDF  | Print |

Artist Statement

Love. Illness. Recovery. Disaster. Calm. Maternity. Dreams.

Imagery derived from nature and the human figure, as well as from pure abstraction. Elements arranged to open up a sense of vast space, even within a small format. Subtle color, repetitive shapes, and delicate lines encourage a closer look from the viewer. Oil, wax, ink, pencil, and paper build layers of texture to give evidence of elapsed time. In books, sketching with happy abandon, exploring ideas which often feed into later pieces.

Art historical influences include Louise Bourgeois, Kiki Smith, Eva Hesse, German and Austrian Expressionism, and Dada.

Artist Bio

Kristy Lynn was born in New Albany, Indiana, and moved to Raleigh, North Carolina when she was eight years old. She graduated from East Carolina University in 2002 with a degree in studio art. She then decided to move to New York and start a new phase of life. She stayed in Brooklyn for several years, and worked at two museums: Brooklyn Museum and Neue Galerie New York. She kept painting, and exhibited her work at galleries including Stay Gold and About Glamour/AG Gallery. She saw amazing exhibits, heard interesting bands, and enjoyed life. It is difficult to describe how influential living in NYC was to her life as well as her artwork.

Late last year, Kristy Lynn moved to Tucson, Arizona with her sweetheart. She's here right now, working on new, more colorful paintings and other things: perhaps even sculptures. The desert is a raw and beautiful place to live, and she is enjoying it quite a lot.
